I have spent many years studying education, and there is no shortage of discussion on the needs of people. Often, we reference what is called Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. According to Maslow’s Hierarchy, our first needs are physical. That is, we need oxygen, food, water, sleep, and all of the things that keep us alive. He then built this pyramid with fancy words and abstract needs that we study in psychology classes. Ultimately, he argued that our needs build on one another as shown below.

Sure, this pyramid is great to discuss and explore in an academic study of human needs, but let’s be honest, I think very few people in this world go around thinking “Ahh, yes, this satisfies my need for safety.”

I find myself thinking a much more simple version of this.

“This makes me feel good”

Even then, what constitutes “feeling good”? In my humble opinion, I would argue that feeling good has to do with being healthy in mind, body, and spirit.

You see, being healthy is simply the state of being in good health, and I would use the definition of health that states it is the physical, mental, and spiritual condition of a person.

I think that deep down, that’s what we all really need.

We kneed to be healthy.

How do we get there? We are all unique, yet we all have the same need.

We get there by following paths that are as unique as we are.

Through this blog, I will explore many avenues that can help satisfy our human kneed to be healthy through a combination of evidence-based information and personal experience.

The title of my blog is a nod towards some of the personal experiences that will impact my writing. I have had four knee surgeries, so my physical health journey is impacted by that experience. I love baking and cooking, so there’s a chance we knead some dough along the way. Hence, we “kneed” to be healthy.

It is experiences and hobbies like these that will influence by blog. However, I plan to explore many different avenues to being healthy so that every reader can find part of their own journey within mine!
